I think that's still going to have big performance issues. You'd have to run a joined query against the temporary table for every record in the models table

I did something similar a few years ago for a big auto parts supplier. (hundreds of thousands of parts) and it was the only way I could get anywhere near the performance I needed

If it's a lot of records, you may (and I can't quite believe I'm saying this) consider the Magento approach of maintaining a flattened index of the vehicle data

I think I'd go straight with a model years table and start the queries from that end
