those are all default fields, so it’s probably not a code problem but rather a db problem or missing index or something… try it on a fresh install with a fresh db in myisam mode

From the error message, it looks as though it's searching Title, MenuTitle, Content, and MetaDescription by default

@MichalKleiner I'm just trying to add a general site-wide search, so I guess title and content would suffice.

ok, what columns you’re trying to search? you may need to add indexes in your data objects to support the search module

Yeah tried that, still getting the error unfortunately

Thanks I think I've converted the DB tables now, I'm getting a new error on search submit, that end with:

  1. ... Can't find FULLTEXT index matching the column list

and I think you lack a space before the ENGINE=MyISAM, not it will not separate the table name from that
