I hadn't really considered any of this before now.
And quite possibly even production servers where composer might not be desirable. Interesting.
It also pretty much precludes the use of Silverstripe on a lot of shared hosting platforms where you don't have any kind of shell access
we're aware of the higher complexity 😕 unfortunately it was the trade-off for getting up to new standards that has come in
I'll probably be able to use the phar. I can see this causing a lot of people issues though, it certainly raises the knowledge level required for use
I guess it depends on what version you are coming from but RC1 -> RC2 was just as simple as updating the recipe entry in composer.json for me e.g
yeah, if possible that'd be ideal if possible ss4 relies on composer quite a bit
