The only issue I can think of is already logged (to do with signed urls)

What kind of scale are you guys using it on? I guess mostly asking about amount of assets and authoring activity like upload files, edit draft content etc. Since actual website requests is kinda irrelevant (behind CDNs).

dorsetdigital

Not massive to be fair. I started running 3 or 4 sites using it to test it as a hosting option. Less than a few thousand assets and not a huge amount of admin activity.

dorsetdigital

I'm about to move another site to use S3 shortly funnily enough

dorsetdigital

Mostly since it works well with the serverless work I've been doing.

dorsetdigital

I don't tend to serve the content directly from the bucket. I either deliver it via Cloudfront or via a worker script. I've been doing some very unscientific testing of both methods to see if there's a performance difference

Philipp

yes, for me too. The scale on the clients website is very moderate so far. My biggest incentives for using s3 in SS are for now, seperating content from code, reduce io on my webserver and getting the advantages serving parallel static requests over http/2 through external services. And the benefits already pay off

Yeah I’m keen to see this become a viable option, but since we don’t operate our platforms like that (we use NFS/EFS), it’s unlikely to see much traction here at the mothership. So definitely feed back your experiences and any blockers on this, via tickets ideally (and ping me, I might miss it otherwise)

Hi everyone, we are exploring the possibility to organize meetups between the stripecon. The idea is to use our companies video conferencing sytsem to give everyone the chance to join from home or work. And if someone is close to our offices they can come in person. But before we start doing this on a regular basis we want to do a test run, to see if it is even an option. See if the technology holds and what are the things we need to focus on.

So we decided to do a test run on Jan 29th. This will not be a fully worked out meetup but rather a testing of the idea. We will have 2-3 lighting talks, hopefully. And otherwise just chat a little.

Ah and since @blueskies asked: If you join by video: It does not have to be beer. You can drink whatever you have at your place.

We call it BYOB. Bring Your Own Bar.

I would suggest updating the wording to Bring your own Drinks in the text then

johannes

I was afraid that would cause confusion. And people would show up just with their own device and have nothing to drink. Maybe ByoDaD Bring your own Device and Drinks? Good thing we are doing a testrun...

@johannes I'm not sure what format you're considering, but if you've ever been involved in the Google webmasters hangouts (with John Muller, etc.) they have a nice Q&A system too. Allows people to send in topics for discussion during the hangout.

dorsetdigital

Can be a handy way to add a bit of structure if there aren't talks as such

johannes

Yes, thats the parts why we want to run a test to see what makes sense or what might be worse exploring. If we did Q&A who would answer them?

dorsetdigital

Well, that's the question 🙂 In their case, it's obviously hosted by the search team, so they are answering the questions.
