I plan on a project / setup for local docker development with PHP that's expandable and flexible and feels a bit like the vagrant box i'm maintaining. I have not gotten to doing it. But I have some POC that looks promising.

The big next speed improvement could be PHP 8. That will have some form of JIT, probably combined with preloading.

That FFI could maybe also mean that same troubles that ruby, nodejs and python have with libraries. The assumption that compiling on a server is ok. Which is absolutly not ok.

But from what I have read about it it's not really a lot faster compared to 7.3. It does have one feature that could some part a bit faster, preloading and maybe in the longrun FFI. See https://stitcher.io/blog/new-in-php-74 .

Yes it has 7.4. And if it's released and the remi has the final version I will update the box.
